Happy crowd in festival marquee
Hundreds of people arrived in a steady stream over the three days to "sample" some of the county's best ales and ciders, which went down well with delicious food from burgers and freshly made pies to South African curries. The sun was shining on us and the atmosphere was just as warm and friendly.
Congratulations and much praise was earned by the three organising bodies who worked together for several months as one big team to provide a wonderful community event. The Beer Festival’s success showcases what can be achieved when Hitchin RFC’s ethos of team and community spirit is matched in equal measure by the members of CAMRA and their “Campaign for Real Ale” and sustaining local small businesses, and the big hearts of charity fundraisers like Hitchin Round Table.
Results are still being counted but early indications are that several thousand pounds have been raised for very worthy charitable causes, including the redevelopment of the Hitchin RFC Clubhouse to provide more sport facilities for more families.
Sincerest gratitude to each and every member of the Festival organising team, family members and helpers, all our valuable volunteers, Festival Sponsors who donated time and money to collect and sponsor barrels, t-shirts and general “adding to the pot.” And all the people who provided food and to all those who attended and had a good time.
