Ben Wiggins launches attack
Hitchin kicked off and were soon three points up through the boot of Ben Wiggins, Ignatians having been penalised for falling over the ball.
The visitors levelled the score when Hitchin were penalised for not rolling away.
The game was evenly balanced, although Ignations were beginning to get the upper hand in the set pieces, and they added to their score when poor tackling by the Hitchin defence allowed them in for an unconverted try just before half time. 3 – 8 in favour of the visitors
Hitchin survived a period of sustained pressure at the beginning of the second half, but with ten minutes gone they lost the ball at a ruck and Ignatians spread the ball wide for their winger to outstrip the defence for an unconverted try.
From a scrum on the Hitchin 22 Ignations again got the ball to their speedy winger to dot down for another unconverted try.
Despite several penalties being awarded against Ignatians Hitchin were unable to capitalise, either losing the ball at the lineout or at the scrum when only five metres out from the Ignatians line.
Failing to gather a kick ahead on their 22 Hitchin were not quick enough to reorganise their defence and Ignatians scored another unconverted try.
A series of penalties resulted in Hitchin putting pressure on the Igantians line, and finally Ruiri Shanahan crossed for five points.
However, in the dying minutes of the game poor tackling again allowed Ignationas to score a final try, which was converted to make the final score 8 -30 in favour of the visitors.
The Hedgehogs will need to find their best form for the local derby this week at Stevenage
