Stevenage Derby

« Hitchin Colts 13 Hemel Hempstead Colts 12 | Main | Stevenage U16's 19 v Hitchin U16's 17 »

The first game of the New Year saw two impressive performances by Hitchin away at Stevenage that saw both teams get a win apiece.

Hitchin 6 Stevenage 9

A game of two halves! In the first half Stevenage were much the stronger side and Hitchin struggled to get possession. Despite this the Hitchin squad tried hard, tackled well and improved as the game went on. In the second half Hitchin continued with their good tackling, moved the ball about well and supported each other but Stevenage kept their nose’s in front and came out winners

Ethan put in very good performance and scored three tries, and the last play of the match saw an excellent try by Joshua who collected the ball a meter from his own goal line and ran the length of the pitch, with Stevenage in hot-pursuit, to score in the corner.

This was a good start to the season for all the payers, well done.

Team: Ethan, Holly, Jonathan, Joshua (C), Laurence, Millie, Naomh
Tries: Ethan (3), Joshua (1), Naomh (1)

Hitchin 6 Stevenage 5

This match suffered from a lot of stoppages but that did not stop Hitchin from producing a very impressive performance.

The whole team tackled like a shoal of Piranha and once they turned over the ball they punished Stevenage with some good individual runs (Alfie, 3 tries) and some very good supporting play from the rest of the team from which the other tries came.

You looked good and organised today team. Well done.

Team: Alex, Alfie, David, Elliot, Harry.L (C), Harry.D, Joshua
Subs: Ethan for Joshua, second half.
Tries: Alfie (3), Elliot (2), Harry.L (1)

Points from match

There were a few knock-on’s due to sloppy passing and handling, you need to concentrate on getting this right as you will get punished as the season goes on - especially by a less lenient referee.

We lost a try and some momentum by running on when tackled, which meant the referee had to call play back. Remember, stop when tackled and pass the ball within 3 seconds - and you don’t have to wait to be tackled before you pass the ball either.

Keep up the good tackling it will win you games.

And finally...

Next week we are at home to Dunstable so meet at the club at 10 am for a 10:45 am start.

I didn’t take all the try scorers details down today and I a missing one scorer for each match, could someone let me know whom I’ve left of the scorecard?

Seasonal stats: Updated top try scorers.
