Hitchin B 5 v Hendon 17

« U8s - First training sessions blows away 'Summer cobwebs' | Main | Sept 9th Balloon Release at the OPEN DAY »

This is the best I can do because I can't remember much after the pub golf, which I didn’t see too many of you on, but what we did do we can all be proud of because everybody stepped up and put 100% in.

I'm sure I even saw Painter put in a couple of big tackles. What I will say is that it did show that there is still a lot of work to do. I'm going to put forward a few good points and a few bad points, as best as I remember it. Those of us who have been training and have listened to what had been said and we took it into the game. Our flat line defense made us very difficult to break down "onside onside press", to the point the ref even commented on it in the bar, while he was telling me that I was lucky to last the game because I was such a ‘Little Angel’. The speed we got to break downs was good, but the clearing out was poor, with the larger pack we were against we really needed to blow over at 110mph but we struggled in that area, the backs attacked well when they were given clean ball which didn’t happen a lot due to a lot of slowing the ball down but both teams were at it so we need to work harder. One special thank you to everyone who played out of position, namely Joe Alison, Dom Bush, and Sam Underwood, all back rowers playing in the backs. After a discussion with the senior players, Sam Underwood was named man of the match, well done Sam I think that it was your first senior game. The iron man award would be to Marc D’Onofrio in the centre who could hardly speak but played a strong game anyway. Oh and just to mention it was our ageing winger Dermott Coughlan who scored our try, Painter missed the conversion from smack bang in front of the posts.
Massive thanks to everyone, now lets get a W next time THEN WE CAN CELEBATE THANKS BOYS

DALE
