Hitchin Ladies travelled to Hertford for a preseason friendly. A tough game was expected having played them before and with Hertford playing in the league above Hitchin.
. Hertford started the game with a powerful attack which was held off by Hitchin’s good defence and some excellent tackles put in by the backs, particularly Rachel Ansbro and player of the match Nerys Martin on the wings. Hitchin play well together and good supportive play and strong driving the rucks and mauls put Hertford under pressure and caused Herford to give away several penalties. Unfortunately Hitchin were not able to hold off Hertford’s attack and Hertford were able to score their first try after 10 minutes. Several more trys from Hertford followed denying Hitchin the opportunity to work on their attack. Despite the loss Hitchin put up a good match and showed some excellent defensive play. An inexperienced pack were able to hold off the Hertford forwards and even win a couple of balls against the head. The quality of play has improved greatly since the end of last season showing the defensive work in training has really made an impact. With a little more positional training and work on attack, Hitchin look to have a promising season.
