Third XV Reports Hitchin 3's 65 v St Neots 3's 5

A feast of running rugby saw St Neots soundly beaten though admittedly there were a couple of 'guests' in the team
And, despite the score, they kept attacking when they could and were justly rewarded with a try after Adam's attempt at an overhead kick saw him miss the ball, fall on his back and let the opposition in for their only score. His other two notable contributions to the game were to call for a kick at goal from a penalty when we were 50+ points ahead (and then quickly walk away so that he wasn't found out) and to be shown a yellow card for handling (plus to give the visitors something to cheer about!)
The pack worked well against a very forward-orientated team, establishing a platform for the backs to cut through, almost at will. The line-out worked particularly well, and whilst we held our own in the scrum, the result owed much to the gulf in class between the respective back divisions. Where Hitchin had seven fast, skillful players looking to expose gaps in the opposition defence, St Neots had a number of forwards playing out of position and were soundly beaten for pace, imagination and execution. Dan Court scored two tries in the first half (does being substituted count as jug-avoidance?), Thomas (one of our RAF guests on his first appearance for the club) put in a Man of the Match performance at 10, scoring one try, converting five and making a number of others for the rest of the backs (though I can't remember who!!!).
I'm fairly sure Stuart de Wolf scored (he usually does!) and there was a certain amount of irony hearing him shouting at team mates to offload and pass. Even funnier was a young voice from the sideline shouting "You're supposed to catch the ball, Daddy!".
All in all, another enjoyable afternoon's rugby followed by more World Cup drama.
