(Mr. Frisch wasn’t happy so his quote was unrepeatable!)
Well the Colts turned up ……. in body but not really in spirit. We arrived late, one of the lads looking decidedly green; there were a number of vacant positions due to illness and injuries and a number of very quiet souls … something to do with lack of sleep and various celebrations. Didn’t really bode well for the game.
However, down but not out. Overall the Colts played a fairly good game of rugby and El Presidente who was there on the side lines thought that they had really improved and were very capable of playing some cracking rugby when sober.
One of our problems was that Hemel had obviously come out well-oiled because they were far too slippery to tackle – must be something to do with the local oil refinery. We also did tend to stand and watch a bit while we adjusted our brains into aggressive mode and the thought processes needed time to kick in.
Yes the score ended in Hemel’s favour but this was a better result than our last match against them this season. There were sparks of good play in the first half - Sam R, Jesse, Dom and Sam the Man all put in some cracking tackles once the oil had dripped off. Will got a classic man and ball together but managed to survive. Barry did some good kicking again and Tom the Tank and Pat did a lovely bit of wrapping up of a Hemel player – he’ll be unwrapped at Christmas! There were a couple of good takes from Barry and JP and RA was a stalwart. Dominic again was king of the line out.
The second half had us waking up a bit, the hangovers were wearing off and it was cold so they wanted to speed up and finish the game. Yorkie helped to inspire too and everyone up’d their game, the pace quickened and there was more aggression to be seen. Some good solid play showed what the lads were capable of and it resulted in two lovely tries by Sam the Man, one of which was duly converted by RA.
Mr. Frisch’s quote of the week “On Nuts, on Nuts!” – had us all laughing but the opposition spectators were quite agog as to what was meant. Should have seen their faces!!
Mr. Frisch wasn’t happy because they didn’t play the game plan, made lots of “silly errors” and missed too many tackles but it was cold and they were tired …
And lads ….get some sleep before the next match!! Xx
Lois xx (the Old Kent Road was too cold to participate)
