Kilburn Cosmos 10 v Hitchin 10

After travelling down to Kilburn Cosmos, Hitchin walked out on to the pitch behind Wormwood scrubs

Hitchin winning the toss opted to play into the wind and up hill in the first half giving the elemental advantages to Kilburn. Hitchin played well with a good defence especially loose head prop James Druy immense covering tackles. The elements took their toll and Kilburn where rewarded with a penalty in front of the posts after Hitchin were penalised for a rucking infringement. 3 points down Hitchin came back with some good phase play with winger James Larmen causing problems for his opposite man out wide. The pressure grew too much for the home side who were penalised. Allowing Magic Jones a kick at the posts. The kick rattled of the far post, bounced out of the Kilburn players hands, over his head and into the waiting arms of Hitchin winger Chris Martin to score. The successful conversion put Hitchin 7 – 3 ahead. Kilburn attacked once again encamping themselves in the Hitchin 22. A slip in defence opened a gap for the Kilburn 12 who ran through to score, a successful conversion put the home side 3pts ahead. Solid defence kept Kilburn out till half time.

The second half Hitchin pressured the Kilburn defence but without quick ball Hitchin failed to penetrate the Kilburn defence repeated rucking offences, gave Hitchin 3 opportunities for points from Mick Jones boot. The wind however had other ideas and forced the first two kicks wide. The final kick brought the game level. Spirited attacking from both sides to seize the victory was countered with solid defending which meant a nail biting final 5mins. However no score was produced and the result stay at 10 all.
