Hitchin Rugby Club mourn the death of Maggie Chapman

« Hitchin U12s v Hemel Hempstead | Main | Hemel Match Report »

Maggie Chapman, wife of long time member Brian (BAJ0 Chapman passed away on Thursday 22nd. November whilst in the hospital Intensive Care unit.

Brian and Maggie have been members of Hitchin Rugby Club since the early 1960s and the club was going through a very difficult patch. Through their efforts the club recovered and never looked back. Whilst BAJ worked hard to help build the club Maggie’s’ support for over 40 years was invaluable and she laundered and repaired kit, cooked teas, typed thousands of letters and newsletters and helped to put the club “on the map”.

During Brian’s two year tenure as President of the Hertfordshire RFU in the early 90s Maggie was constantly by Brian’s side supporting him in all his duties and attending many events.

At the same time she was a very popular member of the staff of Kingshott School where she was secretary.

Maggie will be missed very much.

Maggie’s funeral will be at St Giles Church, Bury Road, Codicote at 2.30 p.m. on Friday 7th. December at 2.30 p.m. There will be a reception in the Codicote Sports Club afterwards.

Any donations, please, to MENCAP via Brian or Austin’s’ Funeral Services, 16 High Street, Welwyn. AL6 9EQ.
