Another cold and wet morning with driving rain making it uncomfortable for everyone. Hemel had a squad of 14, so we played just one match and made seven substitutions to give everyone some game-time.
Hitchin –v- Hemel Won 28-10
(Tries: George, Harry, Charlie, Joe R-G. Cons: Harry (4))
Hemel quickly showed that they have a strong pack and we were forced to defend from the kick-off. However, once we managed to secure some ball, we were able to attack strongly with George crashing over to open the scoring. We continued in this vein, with both our wingers, Euan and Sam making good ground. It was after one good run when, having beaten 2 or 3 players, Sam was tackled near the touch line and stayed down, obviously in great pain.
After a long delay, the match resumed on a narrowed pitch to allow Sam’s treatment to continue. Details of the rest of the match are sketchy as our scribes were attending to Sam but I believe we scored once more in the first half, then twice in the second when Hemel also scored two.
Well done to everyone for a good performance in difficult and distracting conditions.
Unfortunately Sam has broken his leg and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Player of the week: The players decided that this should be awarded to Sam this week.
