U8's at Stockwood Park

« Grasshoppers U17 18 v Hitchin U17 15 | Main | "We're Winning In The Rain, Just Winning In The Rain............" »

The sun was shining until we got to Stockwood Park….

After the game at Leighton Buzzard was cancelled due to a water logged pitch it just left 1 team at Stockwood Park in Luton.
I am not sure that we played on the Rugby pitch at Stockwood Park or the Hippo enclosure at Whipsnade Zoo, it was that muddy! Match report below thanks to Jill.

A reminder that raffle tickets need to be in this weekend (stubs and cash is the preference). I think there are various bits going on at the club this weekend (check the website for details). Training to take place this weekend. We are planning to run training for the Sundays in the “Holiday” season, so we can all run off the mince pies……let me know if you cannot make it.

After many weeks of being a “ref” it was a refreshing experience to be in Eric’s boots. I was amazed how well you all knew what to do and just left me to applaud the performance! Well done!

Two great wins at Stockwood!
Another wet and muddy day and another set of brilliant results from last seasons team of the year!
Game1 - Hitchin 4 Bedford Ath 2
As the game started, Hitchin were put under pressure from a well organised Bedford team, but they defended well, eventually conceding a try after a long period of pressure from Bedford. However, we were straight back in the game as Niall equalised with a dash down the wing. Bedford went ahead again but with some great team support, Alfie scored to level things at half time. More fantastic support play enabled Niall to finish off a team effort for his second try of the game. Hitchin then won a turnover and with Niall in support, Harry D broke through the Bedford defence to give us a two try win.

Game 2 - Hitchin 5 Stockwood 4
The pitch was a mud bath by this stage but the boys seem to like it that way! As we started this game, Jack defended noticably well, grabbing tags and keeping Stockwood at bay but we fell behind when Stockwood put together some accurate passes before we were able to tag them. However, Sam twisted his way through their defence to level things. More superb defending gave us a turnover which was taken quickly by Sam to Alex, who ran almost the length of the pitch to score and put us ahead. Sam then scored again with an individual run to make things 3 -2 to Hitchin at half time. After the break, Jordan broke through the Stockwood line to grab a cheeky try. Excellent defending all round won us yet another turnover which was again taken well, with Jordan passing to Alfie, who supported by Jordan and Alex made it to the try line. Stockwood fought back and it looked like they would manage to get a well deserved equaliser but we hung on for a good win.
Well done to all of you! Both Bedford and Stockwood were good quality sporting opposition.

Try scorers
