Sunday 4th May

« Team News | Main | U8's Sunday 4th »

More emails from Simon I hear you say.....relax, not many more to go....

This one is about the 4th May. The setup is that teams are put together consisting of a player from each age group up to U12's. These teams then play each other and finally a winner emerges.If you (U8 player that is) would like to play please let me know by Monday night. Trying to get 20 players in the right place at the right time has been a challenge at times this year - trying to co ordinate 200 players to be in the right place at the right time sounds like a nightmare.....

Dear Parents,

Firstly I would like to thank you all so much for all of your support in making 2007/ 8 such a fantastic season for the Hedgehogs U8s.

Whether you have helped out with the coaching side, written match reports, sourced trophies, organised tours, stood on the side of the pitch in the cold and cheered the teams on or run the whole of the management/ web side - your support has been really appreciated; THANK YOU.

Our season is drawing to a close, with just two more Sundays and I wanted to mention a key date in the diary in two weeks;

The final Sunday of the Season (4th May) is a fun day for Hitchin Hedgehogs. We play the Founders Cup, which is an intra-club tag competition involving players from U7s through to U12s (don't worry we mix them all up!!) Simon will send out further details just as soon as they are confirmed.

This is then followed by the Season's awards. The club present two awards (Player of the Year and Most Improved Player) in each age group, thereafter each and every child will receive a small memento trophy from the club.

In addition, with the help of the other coaches, I am putting together an 'End of Season Report' certificate for each of the players; focusing on their strengths and highlighting an area for them to work on to improve.

In addition, we felt that recognising only two squad members was perhaps a little unfair and so in addition the coaches have 'clubbed together' and added 6 further awards to make 8 in total;

Player of the Season
Most Improved Player
Top Try Scorer (Lions)
Top Try Scorer (Tigers)
Most Valuable Player (Lions)
Most Valuable Player (Tigers)
Best Newcomer
Squad Player of the Year
The coaches found these awards very difficult to decide on, not least because all of the players have put in a huge amount of effort and tried their best throughout the season.

There were some highly contested categories, and the votes of the coaches were spread amongst a number of our players. That said, I must thank them for their help in this and I feel we have achieved a fair and just result.

Clearly, not everyone can win an award (though each will get a memento trophy and certificate) and I will ask that you, as I will, explain that we celebrate our successful team-mates and that the coaches will be looking at every squad member next year to push to make one of these awards their own.

All of this is then followed by a BBQ/ Bouncy Castle etc etc.

Oh and the bar usually stays open late - and with Bank holiday the next day - what better reason to 'celebrate' a great season.

Thank you again and I really look forward to welcoming the players back in September for another great year in 2008/ 9.

Eric

PS If any of the players are interested in cricket (many of them already play) I coach at Hitchin Cricket Club during the Summer (starting on Sunday 11th May) and run an U6s/ U7s/ U8s group. The older children will be able to play some competitive cricket as we have entered a league this year. Please let me know if you are interested or would like more details.
