Hemel Hempstead 59 Hitchin 7

« ROYAL ANGLIAN REGIMENT MEMORIAL MATCH | Main | Results and Upcoming Fixtures »

Hitchin faced a challenging opening game on Saturday against Hemel. I t would be a testing game for the visitors who fielded several changes to the team that faced Hemel in the Herts Presidents Trophy Final, at the end of last season

Hemel played well and their county players in their back line made the most of the good ball provided by their pack.

Hemel’s continued pressure saw the Hitchin defense begin to fade and they opened up a lead. The battle started to take its toll on the Hitchin team and several players started to take injuries. However they continued to fight on and made their way into Hemel territory but were unable to put points on the board, until the second half, when good line out ball saw Hitchin plough up the center of the pitch and then quickly move the ball wide, for a foot race between James Larman and the Hemel wing to the corner.

The final whistle saw Hitchin on the wrong side of 59-7 defeat. and were shown what standard of rugby is required to compete in London 4 North West., They will have to improve on their performance this Saturday against Barnet Elizabethans at home.
