Hitchin 10 v Barnet 33

« Results from 20/21 Sept and fixtures 27/28 Sept | Main | Team News »

Hitchin lost 33-10 to a Barnet Elizabethans side on Saturday. They were caught half a sleep in the first 20mins, going down 19-0.

Barnet punished Hitchin’s early mistakes, breaking away to score when they were turned over or breaking through a sluggish defence. Hitchin also managed to use all three replacements in the first 20 minutes, to replace injuries in the backline, adding to the already heavy injury list.

With no more replacements and a 19 point deficit to climb, Hitchin woke up for the 20mins leading to half time. With possession and the territory Hitchin managed to create two tries, winger James Larman crossing in the corner and Joff Lord crashing through the Barnet defence. Half time saw them receive some stern words from Coach David Marshal.
Hitchin carried on with their performance gaining possession and territory. Ryan Arbon and Nick Panton saw them secure lineout ball. and with Rob Vivian making good use of the boot Hitchin spend most of the second half in Barnet’s 22. However they failed to cross the line again, with Barnet’s defence managing to disrupt attack again and again.

The visitors kicked themselves into the Hitchin 22 twice and came back with 7 points from each visit. The Hitchin defence was easily overcome by the Barnet attack, and this left Hitchin looking beaten. The final whistle saw them losing a game they could of, should of, and needed to win. Hitchin will need to be fired up and switched on next week for the match against Harrow if the wish to claim their first win of the season.
