Essentials first then the fine words from the man himself......
I have managed to secure an additional fixture with Letchworth (as well as the one we have with Datchworth) on Sunday so plenty of rugby for all. Please be there for 10.00 as we need to ensure that we are all warmed up. I have arranged some dry weather (I asked Eric to sort out last weekends weather.....) so a fine morning of rugby should be had by all. Please let me know if you are not available. If you have an email I am assuming you are available.
Just a reminder, from the list that I have from Sam not all have registered, please let me know if you have and I will check my list and where appropriate speak with Sam.
Now for the fine words.....
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain
That won't dampen our spirits - not with awards, medals and certificates to be had!!
A final well done to all who achieved in the London double header and especially the squad who finished runners-up at Letchworth.
If we stick together as a squad, with the enthusiastic new players, we can only achieve more success this season.
A good session (despite the cold and rain) developed scrummaging, lineouts, mauls and defensive tackling, which we progressed into a game and everyone put in lots of effort and contributed -well done!!
A few things to think about ahead of Sunday's matches
In defence
Hold your position/ channels - talk to the player to your left and right; make sure you're all in the right place!
Put the opposition under pressure by pushing up as a team, especially if they run backwards!
Make YOUR tackles - Don't stand off - Get involved
RIP that BALL away from the opponent - but ONLY when your on your feet!!
Support
the RUNNER
the TACKLER
In attack - If your about to be tackled....
Keep your EYES OPEN and on the defender
Choose your option
Stay on your feet, turn and start a maul (body between ball and defender)
Go to ground, place ball back towards teammates and ensure body between ball and defender
Offload a pass to your supporting teammates.
Player of the Week
Everyone put in a lot of effort, listened to the coaches and did their best - especially the new players - thank you and well done. This week was a hard choice, but for her efforts in all areas particularly in our 'Rip ball' game and her willingness to show the boys her strength in 'King, sorry 'Queen of the Ring' our player of the Week is Sammy. You tried your best, you did all that was asked of you and thoroughly deserve this award - well done and good luck in your first matches on Sunday.
Tough Nut of the Week
There were a lot of bodies 'put on the line' during training this week, but for an absolute 'smashing' tackle during the practice game, that sent not just the ball carrier but probably most of his support player backwards the award goes to Joseph Wilkinson. Also, after his painful stomach injury last week at Letchworth, to come back and be willing to make the tackles a really well deserved award - certificate and Lion bar at next weeks session. Well done Joseph.
See you all Sunday
Eric
