Squad Dan, Ollie P, Ollie Red, Jack, Ben, Christian, Aless, Benji, Jamie H, Frazer, Daniel C, Ashley, Tom B, Daniel H, BMW, OJ, Bradley.

A chilly day, on the weekend that England beat Wales in the 6 Nations after 3 years of losing. Scotland and Italy lose, so no news there then!

Game 1
Hitchin Saxons 21 Bedford A 7
Tries Ben 2 , Ollie Red. Cons Daniel C 3

Wow! These guys are seriously big, so our game plan is to keep it fast and loose. We start well with god attacking intent. All the players seem determined not to get scragged by any of their big guys! Tom takes a big punt well and Fraz and Dan C do a good switch move. Fraz just about holds off from doing a school style hand off. Ben crashes over for 2 tries to give us a healthy lead at HT, with Daniel C converting both. Fraz takes the restart and sets off on a mazy run and Dan B rips well, to secure ball. After locating his gumshield, Daniel H enters the fray after a while out ill. The Bedford scrum starts to get the upper hand, but we manage to hold them out until a clean move down the line sees them get a score. 14-7. Frazer gets a massive hit in on a big Blues player and inspires the team to greater effort. Christian snaffles good lineout ball and Ollie Red gets over on a typical power run. Daniel converts with ease. Bradley enters the fray, despite not being in best of health and takes a good catch and runs upfield. At the death, with Bedford pressing, we steal the ball and Fraz kicks it out.

Game 2
Hitchin Saxons 45 Bedford B 5

Tries OJ 2, Daniel C, Daniel H, Daniel B, Bradley, Ollie Red.
Cons Daniel C 4, Tom B, Benji.

A hat trick by Daniel here, well sort of! We kick off and the forwards drive well. Well that’s what Barry wrote, cos I was at the loo and handed the pad to him! He also saw Daniel C(centre) score a try, but sadly miss the con. Bradley, felling a little better, again runs well, for Daniel H (lock) to get over. 12-0 Next our third Daniel, Prop Mr Barnes stretches his legs and gets in, before Bradley, by now obviously feeling 100% scores, with a great run through. 26-0 at HT. We make a few changes and Jamie H gets in to secure good ball. Throughout the whole morning, Aless has been digging and delving for the ball with her usual tenacity. Bedford get a score, with their big players driving over, but they are unable to convert, despite the coaches’ exhortation to his son (?) Tom moves to inside centre and Ashley is outside him. Jack nearly gets in, but it is OJ who storms through to get a try, with Tom converting. Benji, busy all morning, chips ahead, with twin Daniel exhorting more from him “Benji!” Ollie P tackles well to dislodge the ball and Ollie Red gets over, as he squirts out of a ruck with the ball and dashes for the line. Jack, using a soup cup for the conversion cone, misses. 38-5.
OJ gets his second, ala James Haskell the day before and Benji converts for 45-5.

Game 3
St Neots 7 Hitchin Saxons 7

Try and Con Daniel C
Another big set of forwards for our little terriers to deal with. A terrible start, sees the ball kicked long, over everyone’s heads, not tidied up and a score resulting. We get into the game with Jack ripping well and a good forward build up, resulting in Daniel C (26 points for the morning) going over and converting. This is it for the scoring, as the tightest game of the day ends in a draw. Probably a fair result, although if we had kept playing as well as against Bedford, we might have sneaked it. The quality of St N stopped us from scoring more tries, so full dues to them. Christian tackled well, Benji kicked ahead and chased well, collaring the receiver. Frazer puts in another cruncher (he looks like he really enjoys these now) and Tom and Ollie Red run strongly. We manage great continuity, but the host defence is equal to it and it’s 7-7 at HT. Indiscipline leads to a pen reversal. A silly giveaway, after a promising position. Ollie P runs well, Fraz scrambles on the floor, all the players give it their best but, it is not to be. Player of the week AND cruncher is Frazer, obviously inspired by his trip to Twickenham the day before. Training next week.
